1. N ( "N" stands for "Not with Windows Media Player") comes after Microsoft lost a court in 2005 with the European Antitrust Commission requires that Windows sales are not included with Windows Media Player, because Microsoft has deemed the sale of a monopoly with Windows Media Player Winodws, N versions of the issued and sold only to European markets.

2. E ( "E" stands for "Not with Internet Explorer 8") comes after Microsoft lost a court in 2009 with the European Antitrust Commission demanded that the sale is not included with Windows Internet Explorer 8, as Microsoft has been considered a monopoly of sales of Windows with Internet Exloprer 8, E version is issued and sold only to European markets.

3. K ( "K" and "KN" stands for "Korea") marketed only for the State of South Korea. Comes after Microsoft lost a court in 2006 with Korean Fair Trade Commission requires that Windows sales are not included with Windows Media Player and Windows Messenger, because Microsoft has deemed the sale of a monopoly with Windows 2 software, the then issued and KN K version.
• K = In the windows provided links to software alternatives to Windows Media Player and Windows Messenger.
• KN = Inside the windows are not given an alternative link to the software Windows Media Player and Windows Messenger.

4. Windows is marketed to other European countries and South Korea is the full version of Windows without reduced software aka Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and Windows Messenger.
